For packaged and branded products, a barcode is the most accurate way to log — the nutrition comes straight from the product database.
How to do it
- Type the barcode number (the digits printed under the bars), or send a clear photo of the barcode where those digits are readable.
- CalBuddy looks the product up in a packaged-food database (millions of products) and logs its calories and macros.
- Tell CalBuddy how much you had (e.g. "half the pack", "200 g") so the amounts are right.
If the product isn't found
Some items — especially local or store-brand products — may not be in the database. If CalBuddy can't find it, just log it by text or photo instead (see How do I log a meal by message (text)?), or type the nutrition from the label and CalBuddy will record it.
Tips
- Barcodes work best for packaged foods; for fresh or home-cooked meals, use a photo, text or voice note.
- If a scan returns the wrong product, tell your coach and re-log it — see How do I correct or delete something I logged?
